This is an Exceptional Saratoga Grade Camelback Trunk.

 This Incredible trunk has numerous hardwood slats to protect the body of the trunk. On these beautiful hardwood slats are Rare decorative cast end caps There are also Very decorative corners and decorative slat clamps with swan heads on this fantastic trunk. These are among the finest quality and unlike any we have seen. The top lid hinge system is exceptional and very rare. It uses no lid lift stay and is a unique patented design which holds the lid up securely and is made from highly decorative cast metal. The rear center hinge is incredible in design and function. (you must see the photos) .  A wonderful lock, and great large leather replacement handles with leather strap retainers also compliment the trunk. The trunk exterior is metal which we have refinished to Black, and has basket weave embossed metal trim which is Black with gold accents to highlight the pattern. This is truly an example of the highest quality of trunks of its day. This trunk would have been expensive when it was sold originally. It is a wonderful example of a large Saratoga Grade Camelback  trunk and it is a LARGE trunk.  We date this trunk to be in the 1860's to 1870's which is consistent with the patent date on the lock.  The interior is clean and has been sanded smooth and treated with fine furniture oil and beeswax to protect it. This trunk will be perfect to store many items, sit at the end of a bed, or the trunk is great for display in a foyer under a piece of your art. Dimensions 34"L X 20"W X 28"H
