Very Rare Immigrant
Trunk from the early 1800's. |
Here is a beautiful and Very Rare
Immigrant Trunk from the late 1700's to the early 1800's. We base this
dating on the construction of the trunk, not the lock as it was changed
later. The trunk has forged metal handles, heavy metal banding, forged and
hammered nails in the banding, and originally had a forged hasp closure.
The cabinet has hand cut dovetail construction! Some time in it's long life, it had a lock which looks to date from the
1860- 1880 time frame placed on it. This lock type was commonly used on
European trunks from the lock's time period. We found this Great find at a
Ranch in Colorado, where it had been stored for who knows how long.
Although we do not know it's history, it did have some recoating of the
finish at some point, and has since worn off mostly to the reveal the
current patina. We lightly sanded the trunk and recoated it with a sealer
and beeswax finish. The lock was locked and partially removed, so we
unlocked it, and replaced it on the trunk properly. The trunk was probably
made in the late 1700's to early1800's based on the construction and it
would like to continue its Legacy in your home. Dimensions 32"L X 18"W X
18"H
